Hope this magazine can be your spotlight. Blessings and luck to you! I recently read your article in Experience Life, and it struck a chord in me, not only personally, but in the work that I am currently exploring in my studies at Goddard College. My senior work is focused around constucts of masculinity, and how these constructs are passed down through generations of men.

In my work, I am exploring four generations of men in my family, tracking the progression, or at least development, of masculinity, and how my own identity has been affected and informed by multiple generations of men in my family. In reading about your work with the Leondards, many questions came up for me regarding the process of collecting these stories. How do you access that deeper emotional truth? While I hope that every man has the ability to find this point, I recognize that it is not that easy for many men, and that the barriers that have been built up are harder to penetrate.

As I work to develop interview questions, I am focusing on compiling questions that look for a story as opposed to an emotion or opinion. This I hope, will allow men, no matter their emotional awareness, a space to share and describe their personal experience.

About the Author:

That being said, I am new to this, and would love any guidance or advice that you might be able toprovide. If you have any guidance or advice on resources I should explore, outside of those you shared in your article, or even any tips on approaching interviews, I would greatly appreciate them. In my process of exploring these issues, I am so grateful to find your article and to be able to use it as a jumping off point for the progression of my studies.

Spot on.

By Joseph Hart September Forging Forgiveness Being able to find forgiveness in their relationships with their fathers is a major step for sons in mending hurt feelings — and in being able to move forward with their lives. Facing the Father Wound Every boy, in his journey to become a man, takes an arrow in the center of his heart, in the place of his strength. Oh, to have those little hugs again. Those were the easy years to be a dad. You thought I was the greatest thing in the world. As you got older you wanted to spend more time with your friends. I stopped being so smart in your eyes and slowly started to become someone on the outside looking in. It got harder to get hugs, to express my feelings and to connect with you. The distance hurt some, but life is busy and complicated. Time kept marching on.

Life became a lot more about getting you from one place to another for all of your activities. I think during that time I may have tended to focus more on the logistics and the daily grind.

  • You were doing things on your own and facing the world with all of its challenges and dangers. I watched you succeed and fail, make mistakes and come out triumphant. You were still a shining light in my life and I shared your joy and triumphed with you when you succeeded, but the harder part was letting you feel the pain of failing or making mistakes.
